The AIRICA project aims to demonstrate realistic coastguard missions in the North Sea area.
The envisioned coastguard tasks will involve flights Beyond Visual Line Of Sight. This requires the aircraft to be equipped with appropriate sensors and on-board Detect and Avoid capabilities, which will be implemented and tested.
After take-off from De Kooy airport (in Den Helder, The Netherlands), the RPAS will fly towards the targeted area, perform its mission (for instance a Search and Rescue mission) in non-segregated airspace and fly safely back to De Kooy airport.
The demonstrations will take place using an optionally piloted gyro helicopter and will allow the RPAS to encounter various different airspace environments.
