SESAR JU took part in the 55th International Paris Air Show from 16 to 22 June 2025, joining the European Commission and Clean Aviation. While the show mainly highlights aircraft innovation, it offers a vital chance to explain the essential role of air traffic management (ATM) in ensuring aircraft fly safely, sustainably, and efficiently, especially amid record flight volumes.

A key moment was the official handover of the Aviation Research and Innovation Strategy (ARIS) to European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas. ARIS calls for a total investment of €66 billion between 2028 and 2034 to boost aviation research, innovation, and deployment, helping Europe stay competitive and sustainable.

Commissioner Tzitzikostas said:
“The aviation sector is vital to our economy and our daily lives. […] We will continue working closely with all partners to ensure that European aviation remains a cornerstone of Europe’s competitiveness and a pillar of our strategic autonomy.”

Throughout the event, SESAR JU took the opportunity to hold productive meetings with members exhibiting at the show, as well as welcome visits from Magda Kopczyńska, Director-General of DG MOVE, and MEP Jan-Christoph Oetjen. On 18 June, Stefano Riverso from Collins Aerospace shared insights on the JARVIS project, sparking strong interest among attendees.

The Paris Air Show also gave SESAR JU a rare opportunity to engage with many school children throughout the week — explaining what ATM is, how it supports safe and efficient flying, and inspiring young people to consider careers in this exciting sector.

The event provided a valuable platform to strengthen collaboration across the sector and to highlight SESAR’s crucial role in modernising ATM — a key enabler for the future of European aviation.
