In 2020, staff of the SESAR Joint Undertaking embarked on a 60-day virtual tour of Europe, visiting each of its members! The SESAR 2020 Virtual Challenge aims to raise funds for the European Food Banks Federation to help people who are in need as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

In the space of 60 days, the SESAR JU staff completed a virtual tour of Europe with the aim of visiting each of the SESAR JU members by 10 December 2020, just in time for the closure of the SESAR Innovation Days. To complete this 15.500 km virtual mission, staff accumulated kilometres by engaging in a number of activities, contributing towards the organisation’s overall goal and fundraising for a worthy cause.

Since the beginning of 2020 the demand for food has increased by up to 50% compared to the pre-coronavirus period in Europe. It can be expected that in 2020 the trend of severely materially deprived people will dramatically rise. In response, the staff of the SESAR JU are coming together to raise funds for the European Food Banks Federation (FEBA) through the SESAR 2020 Virtual Challenge, a virtual team-building challenge.

Along the journey, we posted our progress on social media (#SESARJUChallenge2020), and highlighted some of the important work that each visited member is delivering within the SESAR 2020 research and innovation programme.
