Coronavirus - Message from Florian Guillermet, SESAR JU Executive Director
The coronavirus (COVID-19) is impacting the lives of each and every one of us, prompting us to do all that is necessary to safeguard our immediate family and loved ones. It is also having a devastating impact on the aviation sector and its employees across all areas of the value chain.
That sense of family also extends to the SESAR JU, and I want to express my personal support and solidarity to you in these very challenging times. The SESAR JU Business Continuity Plan has been fully activated and all of our activities are being conducted through teleworking arrangements. Our staff are doing their best to maintain our operations and regular activities in close coordination with all our members and stakeholders. We are all adapting to the new normal of teleworking and web-conferencing, and the SESAR JU staff remain fully engaged and available to you.
In these unprecedented and uncertain times, we must stay connected and work together to do everything in our power to support the resilience and sustainability of our industry. The SESAR JU stands side by side with our partner airports, airspace users, air navigation service providers, manufacturers, professional staff organisations, and scientific community to face this challenging future together.

Who we are
The Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) project was set up in 2004 as the technological pillar of the Single European Sky initiative. The SESAR Joint Undertaking (SESAR JU) was established in 2007 as a public-private partnership to harness the research and innovation expertise and resources of the entire ATM community. Founded by the European Union and Eurocontrol, the SESAR JU has 19 members, who together with their partners and affiliate associations represent over 100 companies working in Europe and beyond.
What we do
Guided by the European ATM Master Plan, the SESAR JU is responsible for defining, developing, validating and delivering technical and operation solutions to modernise Europe’s air traffic management system and deliver benefits to Europe and its citizens. The SESAR JU research programme, known as SESAR 2020, is delivering solutions in four key areas, namely airport operations, network operations, air traffic services and technology enablers.
How we work
SESAR research is categorised into three strands: Exploratory research, Industrial research and validation and Very large-scale demonstrations. These strands have been designed as an innovation pipeline through which ideas are transformed into tangible solutions for industrialisation.
