WP 9 Aircraft Systems
The future, performance-based European ATM system, as defined in the SESAR ATM Master Plan, foresees greater integration and optimum exploitation of the aircraft. In order to reach this objective a series of Capability Levels have been scheduled. Each Capability Level provides a stepped performance improvement, synchronised across all components (and stakeholders) of the ATM system.WP9 focuses on the aircraft system elements covering the development and validation of the airborne enablers necessary to support the (OIs) Operational Improvements associated with each of the capability levels 2, 3 and 4.
WP 9 will aim at:
- developing and validating at aircraft level all airborne functions identified in the SESAR ATM Master Plan aircraft Capabilities Levels 2, 3 & 4;
- ensuring operational & functional consistency across stakeholder airborne segments (Commercial Aircraft, Business Aviation, General Aviation, Military Aircraft, UAS, etc.);
- identifying technical solutions for different airborne platform types such as Mainline aircraft, Regional aircraft and Business Jets;
- ensuring global interoperability and coordination with important external initiatives such as NextGen in the U.S.
The objectives of WP9 can be summarised as:
- To develop and validate at aircraft level all airborne functions identified in the SESAR ATM Master Plan aircraft Capabilities Levels 2, 3 & 4, and to support the Overall ATM System definition and validation. i.e.:
- analyse the operational impact on the aircraft, and per aircraft types;
- develop and validate the aircraft functions, using simulators and flying demonstrators when required;
- contribute to the overall operational definition and validation.
- To ensure operational and functional consistency across stakeholder airborne segments (Commercial Aircraft, Business Aviation, General Aviation, Military Aircraft, UAS, etc.).
- To identify technical solutions for different airborne platform types such as Mainline aircraft, Regional aircraft and Business Jets.
- To ensure global interoperability and coordination with important external initiatives such as NextGen in the U.S..
- To make proposals and provide inputs to update the SESAR Master Plan.
