NORACON, the NORth European and Austrian CONsortium, consists of eight European ANS providers: Austro Control (Austria) and the North European ANS Providers (NEAP) including AVINOR (Norway), EANS (Estonia), Finavia (Finland), IAA (Ireland), ISAVIA (Iceland), LFV (Sweden) and Naviair (Denmark).
NORACON together handle approximately 13% of the European IFR traffic and covers an even larger geographical area. Major parts of the NORACON airspace are situated on high latitudes and all the way up to the North Pole.
NORACON will lead WP 8 Information Management and will make significant contributions to both operational and technical areas where we feel that our advantages and skills can be best utilised from a European as well as a regional perspective.
Due to the availability of airspace, both continental and oceanic, and complex airports with periods of fairly low traffic and congestions the region is well suited for performing validation through live trials and pre-operational use. Thus one key contribution will be the access to an operational trials environment, including Oceanic ASAS procedures, Terminal operations using advanced AMAN/DMAN functions, environmental friendly approach procedures as well as free route airspace operations.
