Earlier this month, the SESAR Joint Undertaking had the pleasure to organise a series of events as part of the World ATM Congress from the 3 to 6 March, in Madrid, Spain. Themed “From innovation to solution: partnering for smarter aviation”, the SESAR events provided the latest on the programme’s progress in delivering a solid stream of solutions in response to the most pressing operational business demands across Europe’s entire ATM system. This eNews provides an overview of the events that took place over the course of the Congress.

 

SESAR Internal Meeting: Providing members with a flavour of recent achievements and what is to come

The 2014 World ATM Congress provided the backdrop for SESAR members to come together and hear about the latest developments and upcoming activities of the SESAR Programme. This year’s internal meeting took place on the 3 March and was opened by Mr Claude Chêne, Executive Director of the SESAR Joint Undertaking, who took the opportunity to thank their members for their continued dedication and enthusiasm for the SESAR Programme.

SESAR Forum explores the key components for successful deployment

Exploring the steps necessary to bring SESAR results to the market for deployment was the theme of the 2014 SESAR Forum, which took place on 4 March during the World ATM congress in Madrid.

Claude Chêne, Executive Director, SESAR Joint Undertaking, opened the Forum by noting the “commitment, energy and determination of SESAR members to develop solutions that are relevant for use and that have a real potential to boost Europe’s ATM performance, both now and in the future.

SESAR demonstrates Initial 4D at World ATM Congress

The SESAR programme organised a technical demonstration workshop of initial 4D (i4D) trajectory management on 4 and 5 March 2014, as part of the World ATM Congress in Madrid. The demonstration presented a simulation of an i4D flight going from Toulouse in France through Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre airspace to Copenhagen in Denmark. The simulation is based on multi-site validation capabilities and mirrors a real flight test scheduled for 19 March 2014, within the SESAR Programme validation activities.

Workshop on SESAR Demonstrations reveals significant benefits in ATM

This workshop provided an overview of SESAR Demonstration activities, as well as showcased a number of projects that are currently underway. The workshop also outlined the planning for the RPAS Demonstration Projects and participants had the opportunity to hear from several of the selected projects. The session was led by Alain Siebert, Chief Economics and Environment, who took the opportunity to highlight that by working together on SESAR Demonstration projects, the European aviation community is proving that the first SESAR solutions for the future air traffic management system are both operational and ready for industrialisation

SESAR Workshop unpacks SESAR Solutions

This workshop looked at the solutions that the SESAR programme is delivering for further development and deployment. The workshop, chaired by Benoît Fonck, Chief Development and Delivery, also addressed the standardisation and regulatory implications and explained how the solutions will be considered as part of the deployment process
