SJU member, LFV, has inaugurated the world’s first Remote Tower Services in Sundsvall, serving Örnsköldsvik airport over 150 km away. Something that began as an idea and a vision of a paradigm shift in air traffic control almost ten years ago has now been realised through close cooperation between SESAR members, LFV through NORACON and Saab through NATMIG.

Going forward, the SJU and its members will continue to support RTS projects across Europe as well as continuing in SESAR2020 to develop and validate remote and virtualisation of Aerodrome and ATS operations looking at how these innovative remote and virtual technologies can be used to serve multiple airports surface and airspace and also as a fully capable complimentary and contingency solution for the full range of European Airports.
